Why Bulma and Vegeta Works

Differences vs. Similarities

Hi guys, it's the DB Analyst here. Applying real world logic (I think) in the Dragonball world. Welcome to my first drama post. Drama topics are my views on the family, love and relationships of Dragonball. And who better to start this off with than the best couple of the series, Bulma and Vegeta. It would seem from having written my story that I've become a complete BV fan. There's just something beautiful and real about their relationship.

So we all know about their differences which are easy to spot from a mile long.

DIFFERENCES

1. Human vs. Saiyan – she's just your typical human like me or you (unless you can fly and shoot firebeams then I'm not talking about you:) and he's your everyday warrior and battle-hungry saiyan

2. Carefree vs. Serious – Bulma can be so full of life and down to earth that sometimes you just forget that she's a super rich, super smart scientist (in this world, there are people who achieve a little today and would be walking on airs tomorrow); Vegeta always wears a scowl on his face and he's quick to give a stern correction if someone were to step out of line or step on his toes (hopefully not literally or else run!)

3. Fight Fan vs. Fan of Fighting – you would definitely find this girl cheering on from the sidelines and have her eyes pealed, anxiously watching every hit (but nowadays she's just watching the wind – they are way too fast now); Vegeta is the one who is dishing out the hot blows and epic intense speeches (in fact his speeches may be his greatest battle technique)

4. Romantic vs. Practical – whatever Bulma is feeling every one is bound to know, she says it and shows it (like trying to get a cute guy's attention or not holding back tears for Vegeta back in the Buu arc when he died); Vegeta wears his heart on his armored sleeve – he's just not the kind of guy to be open about his love like that (the “My Bulma!” moment was a highlight of what you need to do to get him to show it)

However, for me, it is their similarities that make their relationship work.

SIMILARITIES

1. Opinionated and Headstrong – Vegeta has total respect for Bulma and she is the perfect one to put him in his place when he's wrong. They are not ones to shy away from harsh words and prefer to tell it like it is. In fact, Vegeta most admires her boldness and audacity (after all he sees how others would quiver and cower before him). She holds an aura of a Saiyan princess – a true leader than can stand up for herself.

2. Loyal – Bulma takes her friendships very seriously and cares for everyone as if they were family (she would even invite them to stay indefinitely at a moment's notice); once Vegeta counts you as a friend you know you're his friend (his word is his bond).

3. Family-oriented – Family means a lot to Bulma and she feels a sense of home knowing her parents are near; I'm pretty sure the only persons Vegeta has ever truly opened up to is his family.

4. Proud – People take this as a negative quality but there is nothing wrong with having pride in yourself. They are very keen on respect and manners at all times. Vegeta's pride could be overbearing at times but in the right setting it is revered for letting anyone know not to mess with him and his family. No one can ever say a bad word about their family or friends – unless it's them who's dishing it out.

5. Argumentative – Their favourite thing and perhaps their love language is when they are arguing (and now you know that arguing is the 6th love language:). Typically, it is play-arguing but any kind of arguing is their thing. It would have to be a very serious thing for it not to be taken as endearing and sentimental on either end.

So let me know what you guys think about Bulma and Vegeta. Were they meant to be for the sake of love or maybe just for the sake of the plot? :)
