DBU File: Ep 23: War Babies

Updated: Oct 9, 2020

Why did the saiyans send out low-level saiyan babies?

Hi guys, it's the DB Analyst here. Applying real world logic (I think) in the Dragonball world. There seems to be a few DBUs out there but specifically right here it is reference to my Dragonball series Universe Saga. DB Files could be a single topic or a variety of topics on anything specific to the episode(s) within the series ranging from Dragonball, Z, GT, Super, etc.

Alright, lets get down to business. Actual business. You see, I have a serious job opening available. It requires a person who has brute strength and sheer muscle. If any of you guys know any young people up for the task just call me up as soon as possible. Only suitable applicants will be acknowledged AKA only people 3 years and under. If you guys got the gist of what I was going for, I was playing off on the idea that young saiyans (literal babies) were sent off to go destroy worlds. I don't know about you but that's quite a job especially for a baby. They even had whole teams of grown men and women to go out to do these raids and you're sending out a baby. One baby. One single baby. Even a newborn baby. I have some major concerns about the whole thing:

1) This is a man's job.

2) This is a strong man's job.

3) Babies? Really? Are they going to cry the people to death. With Goku, at the very least, you might be able to drive someone crazy. (Poor Broly.)

4) And low-level babies? A low-level man couldn't do it but you're sending out a low-level baby? Hmm...

Yes, I know about the ape form. Just look at the moon and voila! So easy, a baby could do it. (Great tagline to go on my ad, huh!) But I'm here to add a sense of reality to the whole thing. After all, saiyan babies are not all that different to human babies except for that ape form. So many things could have gone wrong!

IN SPACE

1) The ship could have crashed (into a satellite, another spaceship, meteors) and burst into flames.

2) The ship could have gotten damaged (maybe even mess up important functions of the ship).

3) They could have been taken by the Galactic Patrol (Maybe on the grounds of underaged space travel at high speed).

4) Frieza could have found them.

5) They could have met up with someone who wanted to play a practical joke and punch in the coordinates for the wrong planet (maybe they may even have ulterior motives) – it wouldn't be too hard a hijacking, its like stealing from a baby (literally).

6) On the point of stealing, maybe even take their food supply or why not just take them (why adopt when you can just grab and go).

7) They could have run out of fuel, especially if the ship did get damaged (Can a baby even use a pump?)

LANDING

1) They could land in lava or to the very bottom of the sea.

2) They could have been found by a regular Mom + Pop (wouldn't even know a thing about fighting). 3) Or they could have been found by a disfunctional Mom + Pop (and maybe know about a whole other kind of fighting).

4) Maybe even a disfunctional society – a current war or a contagious disease is rampant.

5) Maybe when they landed, they caused so much damage or maybe destroyed something of great importance and now have to work off that debt for the rest of their life

SURVIVING

1) What if no one finds them? Ever.

2) What are they feeding on? Will their food supply last that long?

3) Who was even changing their pamper for this long trip anyways?

4) Let's say that they are well fed and clean. How do they even get out of the ship? With super epic technology to get it to travel millions of miles, maybe even some cryosleep action then it must have something for it to open automatically, right? But.....

5) What if it opens in the middle of an avalanche, heavy snowfall or a hefty pile of hail? If it's the hot summer sun, they would just roast to death.

6) OK...so they get out but then they crawl or walk their way off a cliff.

7) Alright, alright. Enough of the bad vibes. Let's suppose everything went well but what if it isn't night as yet? So they just wait...

8) What if from where they are that they cannot even see the moon?

9) So, it's night time and they can see the moon and they just immediately go ape (I'm sure babies get jet lag too. Not even a quick nap!)

With everything I just pointed out, who in their right mind thought that this was a good idea? I came up with the idea of communicating with the baby to ensure the success of the trip. After all, it needs to know what its mission is. I was thinking that when Goku hit his head, he forgot this message...perhaps in fact, he hit his head on purpose. According to Ringo, it was on constant repeat – kind of like a sort of brainwashing technique, maybe. Moreover, any form of communication could prove to be useful. I looked into the parents just checking in with the baby and cheering them on to hurry back home – this could boost their social standing by having a child that conquered an entire planet solo. Or perhaps, parents would fill them in on what their name is and who is their family (as prep for the trip back home). This sounds reasonable, right?

In terms of the ship's safety – you can say that the technology is so advanced that it would know to avoid obstacles, do self-repair and even determine a decent place for landing. What about if the Galactic Patrol came by? According to my story, the saiyans were rather well known villains of space and anybody would be willing to stop them especially at such a vulnerable age. There was also Frieza who made it clear he was thrilled with the idea of all the saiyan race being wiped out. If he had found a stray floating about, he would have wasted no time in ending them.

Even if everything was to go smoothly, there's always the case of the ape form. It has been stated that the ape form could be uncontrollable and wild. Adults can have problems with it so why put that to the hands of a child. Another possible danger is that after they go ape they could have even destroyed their own ship. There is nothing reliable about this strategy AT ALL. Who sends babies to war? A mad man or a King with his own agenda in mind.

With a King like that, who would even care about the Prince? The ones that bowed to Vegeta were either just following protocol or they gladly accepted him as a new head of command (or perhaps a mixture of the two). The ones who were against him, even going so far as to try to done him off with a direct blast were also likely to take down anybody that stood in their way. It is understandable to be against the system when you've had enough but to be willing to burn it all down even to turn on your own to do so (AKA to hell with the Prince, King, everything) may be taking things too far. They even posed the question “And what has he ever done for you, huh?". What has the King, Queen, President, Prime Minister ever done for you? Specifically you. There were some who were on the side of the King only because they saw that he gave them a “life of luxury”. Little did they know, that manipulation and deceit was at play. There are times when outside forces can try to meddle but there are those in power who may be just as corrupt to begin with. And the King is most certainly corrupt.

However, Poompa's response was “Clearly he is not anything like his father. It's not his fault that they look so much alike, right?" This could relate to the concept of reform. He understands the ills and wrongs of the system but that tearing it all down is not the answer. Who would lead afterwards if that was the case? It could be infinite inner wars to finding that answer because you've done away with the system and everyone has their own idea of the new one. Yes, it may look alike but a difference is possible. It can't be so easy to paint it all with the same brush regardless of who has taken the position. Ringo should probably be their next King and with his speech he reminded them where they came from and what they've been through. He was even one to question why he couldn't just take the position (in other words just kill the Prince and skip the bureaucracy) but it was good thing he chose to state his reasons why at this time. It was obvious that not even Vegeta knew what was really going on (and sometimes, we need to careful before striking).

But if they were still going to demand that they no longer needed a King at all then what would happen? Even on the side against the King, they were some who for Ringo as the new king and there were some who wanted nothing with reform whatsoever. In fact, the opportunity for reform was favourable – the King was in dire shape and severely weakened, a feat that is not easy to come by – yet still they would insist on tearing it all down when they could just as easily replace him with better. Luckily, his speech got through to them and this wasn't the outcome. Think of it like dealing with any other form of authority. You wouldn't want to just get rid of your parents but it would take some time for them to come around. You may be wishing all kinds of things on that teacher you don't like but you're still going to be polite and get your work done in hopes that by next year you would have someone else. You wouldn't want to bomb down your work place but you may have to go through a process in order to reason with the boss.

Trust me, I did not write the episode to make this analogy on purpose but somehow this is what I am getting from it now, after all this time. It's amazing just what lessons could be garnered from these episodes. It gives you food for thought and a means to ponder even deeper. How did I go from soliciting a baby warrior to such a deep take? :D Just some wacky ideas so don't take me on too seriously. The idea is to get you to do your own thinking. Share your views or combat my own. That's the beauty of the DB Files. Well, that's the beauty of the DB Analyst. See you next time.
